GETTYSBURG, Pa. (May 13, 2017) – The FDU women's lacrosse team won its 12
th straight contest, topping Hamline University 18-2 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday.
Hamline ends its season at 15-5, while FDU moves to 17-3. The 17 victories matches its season-high for wins in a season, set two seasons ago in 2015. The Devils advance to the NCAA Second Round, and will face host No. 7 Gettysburg College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The senior connection of
Brienna Reasoner and
Joelle Manganella connected for the first goal, as Reasoner forced a turnover at midfield and led the rush up-field. Manganella ended up with the ball and hit a cutting Reasoner for the game's opening tally.
After senior
Frances Maggio recorded a goal with 24:54 left in the opening half, classmate
Laura Cannillo corralled a wild draw and deposited a shot into the back of the net 16 ticks later for a 3-0 lead, forcing Hamline into their first timeout. FDU tacked on four more before game was 12 minutes old, getting additional goals from juniors
Samantha Holleritter and
Cassidy Vastano, and seniors
Noelle Shirey and Manganella.
Reasoner and Manganella added their second goals of the game midway through the frame before Dana Almquist of the Pipers ended the shutout with 8:02 left. Shirey, sophomore
Caitlyn Damon and Reasoner all recorded goals before the opening stanza ended. The Devils had a commanding lead in several stat categories in the first half, including holding Hamline to 3-of-15 clears the half.
Maggio opened the scoring in the second period 2:49 in, before Manganella completed her hat trick with just over 10 minutes gone. Holleritter became the third with a hat trick scoring back-to-back goals three minutes apart midway through the period. Sophomore

Aliyha Elk capped off the scoring for FDU. The Devils held a 34-12 edge in shots on the day,

Erin Gill saw the last 10 minutes, also making four stops. Senior
Kelsey Ryan, Shirey and Reasoner each forced three turnovers, while Shirey led the way with seven ground balls.
