Women's Lacrosse Topples King's in MAC Semifinals

MADISON, N.J. (May 3, 2017) - Senior Brienna Reasoner tallied six goals to lead the FDU women's lacrosse team to a 19-2 win over King's on Wednesday.

With the victory, the Devils advance to the MAC Freedom Championship game for the fifth time in the last six years and will take on No. 3 seeded Misericordia at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. FDU and Misericordia have met once already this season, as FDU won a thriller 8-7 thanks to a late goal from senior Noelle Shirey, her 100th point of her career.

After a scoreless four minutes to begin the contest, FDU senior Joelle Manganella broke the drought with her first of three on the afternoon. 39 seconds later, Manganella fed classmate Noelle Shirey, while seniors Frances Maggio and Reasoner hooked up for another tally 56 after that. In total, the Devils scored three times in 1:34 for a lead they would not relinquish.

Shirey, Manganella and Reasoner each added their second markers of the game during a three-minute stretch midway through the opening stanza, while Maggio scored one with 14:25 remaining. King's got on the board with a Katy Higinbothom goal 31 seconds after the Maggio tally, but Reasoner and sophomore Kathleen Petrucelli combined for the next six goals, sending FDU into halftime cruising with a 13-1 edge.

FDU would score the first five times in the second half, as Shirey and Manganella polished off hat-trick efforts. Single goals in the second half came off the sticks of Maggio, juniors Cassidy Vastano and Samantha Holleritter, along with senior Laura Cannillo.

Reasoner finished with seven points, eight ground balls, five caused turnovers, and draw controls, while classmate Brittni Calleo added four caused turnovers and three ground balls. In addition to their three goals, Shirey and Manganella each added an assist. Sophomore Megan Nemeth made three saves in the victory.
