MADISON, N.J. (May 2, 2017) - The FDU men's tennis team advanced to the MAC Championship for the second straight season thanks to a 5-1 win over King's Tuesday.
The Devils are now 14-4 on the year, and will take on No. 1 seeded Wilkes on Saturday at a time and location to be determined,
The two sides had just met on Saturday, with FDU taking a close 5-4 decision, but dropped two of three doubles matches. It was a reversal today, as the No. 3 team of graduate student
Ryan O'Keefe and junior
Chris Ly easily handled their opponents 8-3. Junior
Max Moscowitz and senior
Jason Dubinsky fell at No. 2 doubles, but the team of
Rich Bennett and freshman
Kevin Weller gave the team momentum heading into singles play, winning in a tiebreaking set 9-8 (7-3).
The middle of the Devils singles lineup got the job done, as FDU pulled off wins at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles. Ly and Weller won their matches by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores, while O'Keefe closed out the match with a big 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles to secure the win. At the time, Dubinsky was up 6-2, 5-5 before the O'Keefe decision, while Moscowitz was on the verge of forcing a third set, up 4-1 in the second after dropping a heartbreaker 6-7 (5-7) in the opener.
