MADISON, N.J. (April 5, 2017) - The FDU baseball team topped the College of Mount St. Vincent 11-3 in non-conference action Wednesday.
The Devils are now 7-7 on the season, as CMSV fell to 6-12.
FDU manufactured a run without a hit in the bottom of the first. Senior
Nick DeAngelis Jr. reached on a fielder's choice, swiped second and moved to third on a wild pitch, finally scoring a
Reynaldo Diaz sacrifice fly. After senior
Bryan Pieschel walked with bases loaded in the third, senior
Dylan DiPolvere smoked a double to right, plating two more.
DeAngelis was a force on the base-paths this afternoon, swiping a potential school-record four bases and drew a two-base error on the pitcher with a failed pickoff. Diaz lofted his second sac fly of the day, putting FDU up 5-0 after four.
Despite surrendering three runs in the fifth, FDU scored six times over the sixth and seventh frames to break the game open. DeAngelis had a pair of RBI hits over the two innings, while Diaz and junior
Christopher Franco recorded run-scoring hits.
Freshman
Anthony Cuomo earned the win, tossing two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Seven pitchers combined to throw the nine innings, tallying 11 strikeouts. Lead-off hitter
Garrett Ruoff was a perfect 4-for-4 while DeAngelis Jr. touched home five times.
The Devils will welcome Eastern to campus for a single game at 3:30 Friday.
