MADISON, N.J. (April 3, 2017) - The FDU baseball team fell to DeSales 16-2 in the rubber game of the three game series on Monday.
The teams split a doubleheader yesterday, as FDU won the opener 3-1 and dropped the nightcap 8-0. The Devils dip below .500 at 6-7 and are 1-4 in the MAC Freedom.
The first two innings saw DeSales score a run in each frame, before the Devils were able to cut the lead in half in the fourth. Playing as the road team at home, junior
Christopher Franco and senior
Bryan Pieschel hit back-to-back doubles, but Pieschel was thrown out stealing to prevent further runs from scoring.
In the bottom of the fourth, DeSales sent 14 men to plate, scoring nine runs on nine hits. Tommy Esparo hit a solo home run to lead off the inning, and followed up with a three-run shot in the same inning.
Franco hit a solo homer of his own in the top of sixth to make the score 11-2, but the Bulldogs tacked on five more in the bottom of the eighth, including a grand slam by Michael Hronich.
Freshman
Logan Brown started and struck out four in 3 2/3 innings, while classmate
Frank Chessa also fanned four in 1 2/3 frames. Pieschel, Franco and senior Nick DeAngelis Jr, all had two hits, as junior
Jack Paladino recorded his first career hit.
