MADISON, N.J. (April 29, 2017) - Senior
Paige Lillie hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in game two to help the FDU softball team to a split against King's on Saturday.
GAME 1: King's 4, FDU 1
The Monarchs scored runs in the first and fourth, but FDU cut the lead in half in the home fourth. Sophomore
Courtney Rohde led off with a double and moved to third on a Lillie single. Junior
Rebecca DeCarlo singled home Rohde making the score 2-1.
The guests extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh, with runs coming on a wild pitch and a double by Ally DeVoir.
Junior
Audrie Thomas went the distance for FDU, striking out two while allowing four runs.
GAME 2: FDU 5, King's 4
The Devils opened the scoring in the first, as junior
Taylor Torre belted an 0-2 pitch over the fence for her fifth homer of the year. After DeVoir tied things up with an RBI groundout in the second, FDU scored three times over the next two innings. Senior
Jacquelyn Tartaglia dropped down a bunt and throw sailed into right, allowing junior
Michelle Mangini to score.
Mangini was the catalyst in the third, as she delivered a two-run double to dead center, plating both Torre and Lillie. The Monarchs did not go away, and scored in fourth, fifth and sixth frames. Each run did not come on a hit, as the visitors used an error, a wild pitch and sac fly to score. With two outs in the top of the eighth, King's put runners on second and third. But freshman Kailee Fish induced a groundout to end the inning.
Freshman
Gabby Young led off the eighth with a single, and moved to third on a fielder's choice from Torre. Lillie took the first pitch she saw and hit a sac fly, with Young sliding in to barely beat the tag. Fish earned her third win of the year, tossing two innings of scoreless relief.
FDU concludes its season with a pair of games against CSI tomorrow.
