WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The FDU-Florham baseball team dropped a double-header to King's College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in at Lipo Field.
The Devils are now 12-19 on the season and 6-12 in the MAC Freedom as King's improves to 18-15 and 11-7 in the conference.
GAME 1: FDU 0, King's 10
FDU-Florham struggled to get an offense going as the Monarchs used a four-run third inning to grab an early 5-0 lead.
Catcher junior Wilbur went 2-for-2 while junior
Garrett Ruoff, senior
Bryan Pieschel, junior
Reynaldo Diaz and senior
Dylan DiPolvere had a hit each.
The Devils threatened King's in the third as a junior
Joseph Bonaccorso sacrifice bunt advanced junior
David Wilbur to scoring position. Still, it was to no avail as Monarchs pitcher Nick Deno retired two straight to end the inning without giving up a run.
FDU-Florham came close again in the top of the seventh when Diaz doubled to left field but Deno was able to remain composed to retire the side and earn the shutout.
GAME 2: FDU 5, King's 11
Once again, the Monarchs jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the second inning. Still, the Devils fought back in the third inning with a four run performance.
Ruoff kicked off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second when Pieschel was hit by a pitch. Diaz walked to load the based and junior
Christopher Franco hit an RBI single to score Ruoff. Franco advanced to second on a throwing error as Pieschel scored to close in on the Monarch's lead.
Senior
Diego Espinosa then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Diaz and senior
Josh DellaPietro smacked an RBI single to center field to plate to Franco.
The Devils could only generate one more run in the fourth inning as Pieschel doubled to center field and scored on a fielding error.
Pieschel finished the second game going 2-for-3 as Diaz, Ruoff and Franco tallied a hit each.
Up next, the Devils return to Madison, N.J. when they take on Western Connecticut State in non-conference play on Tuesday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. at the FDU-Florham baseball field.
