MADISON, N.J. (May 2, 2017) - The FDU baseball team was doubled up 14-7 by Western Connecticut Tuesday.
The Devils are now 12-20 with three games remaining against Wilkes this weekend.
FDU jumped on the board quickly, as junior
Christopher Franco laced a double to left-center to score classmate
Reynaldo Diaz. The double was the 100th career hit for Franco in his career at FDU. The Colonials bats' woke up in third and fourth, scoring nine times over those two innings. Junior
Jack Paladino singled up the middle in the home fourth, driving in a pair to get FDU within 9-3.
West Conn. would score three more times in the seventh and twice in eighth to build a 14-3 lead after 7 1/2 frames. FDU dug into the lead in the eighth, scoring four times. Freshman
Richard Stecher recorded his career RBI, and Paladino delivered another two-run single which chased the visitors relief pitcher. After a ribbie double by junior
Joseph Bonaccorso, Colonials reliever Kyle Cole got the final two outs to retire the side.
That was as close as FDU would get, as Cole set the Devils down 1-2-3 in the ninth. Franco and Paladino each had two hits, while the freshman Paladino had a career-best four RBI's.
