Shirey Scores 100th Career Point in Women's Lacrosse Victory

DALLAS, PA. (April 22, 2017) - Senior Noelle Shirey scored the first and last goals of the game to lead the FDU women's lacrosse team to a key 7-6 win over Misericordia Saturday.

With her two tallies, Shirey joins classmate Frances Maggio as Devils to reach 100 career points this season. The Devils are now 12-3, and 5-0 in the MAC Freedom. The Cougars drop to 9-3 and 4-1 in conference.

FDU started off the game on fire, recording the first four markers. Shirey kicked things off goal from Cassidy Vastano and six minutes later, senior Joelle Manganella doubled the lead. After nine scoreless minutes passed, Vastano tallied a free position shot at the 8:03 mark. Senior Brittni Calleo capped off the Devils first period scoring with a free-position goal of her own with 5:14 left in the frame.

59 seconds later, the Cougars scored the first of their first half goals, and went into the half down 4-2. The two goals would rejuvenate Misericordia, who opened the second half with four straight goals putting the hosts up 6-4.

Vastano righted the ship off a feed from Caroline Pape, and senior Brienna Reasoner converted a free position attempt to even things at six with 6:53 left. Misericordia would turn the ball over, leading to Shirey scoring the final goal of the game with 4:07 left. The staunch Devils defense held the hosts without a shot over the final 13:40 of the second half.

FDU was a near-perfect 13-of-14 on clears, and held a 30-12 edge in shots. Sophomore Megan Nemeth made six saves in the win, while Shirey controlled the game with four draw controls. Reasoner had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, as Manganella chipped in five ground balls.

FDU is back home for two games next week, first hosting Manhattanville at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.
