DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (April 22, 2017) - The FDU softball team dropped a pair of MAC Freedom contests to Delaware Valley Saturday.
The Devils drop to 11-20, 4-8 in conference, while Del Val is 8-13, 3-9in the MAC Freedom.
GAME 1: Delaware Valley 6, FDU 3
The Aggies did all their scoring in the first two innings.Jamie Stefani hit a two-run homer in the first, and three straight singles helped the hosts to a four-run second. Freshman
Megan Zaccario entered in the third and held Delaware Valley, allowing FDU to attempt the comeback.
The Devils scored twice in the fifth, as catcher
Michelle Mangini reached on a one-out walk. Senior
Paige Lillie recorded her 100th career hit, an RBI triple that plated Mangini. Lillie would score on a sacrifice fly by junior
Rebecca DeCarlo. Mangini drove in another run in the sixth with a ribbie single, but it was as close as they could get.
Mangini reached base twice, while Zaccario struck out two in four relief innings.
GAME 2: Delaware Valley 7, FDU 6 (9 innings)
FDU trailed 2-0 after the first inning of game two, as the Aggies recorded four hits in the frame. Lillie got the Devils on the board with an RBI single, but four additional Aggie runs in the fourth saw FDU fall behind 6-2.
The Devils answered back in the fifth, starting with freshman
Gabby Young reaching on a run-scoring fielder's choice. Classmate
Annamarie Santangelo would scoot home on a wild pitch, and Young came home on an RBI groundout by sophomore
Courtney Rohde. Mangini cut the deficit to a single run with a sac fly, as the Devils trailed 6-5 heading into the sixth.
With runners on second and third and two outs, Young reached on an infield hit that plated the tying run but that was all the scoring they would get on the day. An infield hit with the bases loaded in the ninth gave Del Val the walk-off win.
Freshman
Tara Morash had a career-best three hits, while classmate
Liz Kelly had a pair of singles.
The Devils will be back in action for Senior Day next Saturday, hosting King's.
