MADISON, N.J. (April 20, 2017) - The FDU softball team outscored Brooklyn 20-0 in a pair of victories on Thursday.
GAME 1: FDU 12, Brooklyn 0 (5 innings)
The Devils scored three times in their first at bat of the afternoon. Freshman
Annamarie Santangelo led off with a single, and came around to score on an RBI double from junior
Taylor Torre. The following hitter, junior
Michelle Mangini, singled home Torre and advanced all the way to third on the throw home. Finally, sophomore
Courtney Rohde lofted a sac fly for the third final tally.
FDU exploded for five in the second, with
Rebecca DeCarlo,
Jacquelyn Tartaglia and
Tara Morash leading off with singles. After an out, freshman
Gabby Young hit a ball to right that scooted past the right fielder, scoring all four runners for an inside-the-park grand slam. Two batters later, Mangini belted a home run to left field for her fifth long ball of the year. DeCarlo led off the third with a home run, and junior Frannie Jarin collected her first RBI of the season with a single to left center.
Senior
Paige Lillie drove in a run with a triple in the fourth, and freshman
Kaylee Fish concluded the Devils scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Torre, Mangini and DeCarlo each had two hits, while junior
Audrie Thomas fired a complete game shutout. Thomas struck out five in five innings.
GAME 2: FDU 8, Brooklyn 0 (5 innings)
FDU started off game two just like the end of game one, hitting the ball hard.:The Devils scored four times in the top of the first, as Torre had the big blow, a three-run home run to left field. After a scoreless second, the Devils tacked on four in the third. Rohde delivered a big two-run double, while Jarin had a sacrifice fly. Freshmen
Megan Zaccario and Fish cruised to a complete game shutout, combining for eight strikeouts
Tartaglia had two hits in the leadoff spot, while the 2-through-7 hitters all had one hit each.
FDU is back in action on Saturday, taking on Delaware Valley in MAC Freedom action.
