Center Valley, Pa. (April 2, 2017) - Junior Kenny Carrier of the FDU baseball team tossed a no-hitter to lead the Devils to a 3-1 win over DeSales in the first of two games Sunday.
GAME 1: FDU 3, DeSales 1
Playing on the road as the home team, the Devils gave up a run without surrendering a hit in the top of the first. A pair of walks sandwiched a hit-by-pitch to load the bases, and all the runners would move up 90 feet, scoring the first and only run of the day for DeSales.
Garrett Ruoff and Nick DeAngelis Jr. led off the home first with singles and moved up on a wild pitch. Junior Christopher Franco tapped acomebacker to the mound but the only play was to first as FDU evened the score. Franco and classmate Reynaldo Diaz hit back-to-back doubles in the third that each plated a run, staking Carrier to a 3-1 lead.
The junior made the two run lead hold up, allowing just baserunner after the rocky first inning. His seventh and final inning was the best of the afternoon, getting the final out of the seven-inning affair on a strikeout.
Carrier struck out six and walked three on the afternoon, while DeAngelis had a pair of hits for the Devils.
GAME 2: DeSales 8, FDU 0
The Bulldogs only collected six hits off starter Brad Norris and reliever Chris Portelli, but took advantage of eight FDU errors en route to the shutout win. Of the eight runs, only two had RBI's connected to them.
Senior Diego Espinosa tallied a pair of hits, while Norris struck out four in his six innings of work.
The Devils and Bulldogs will meet tomorrow at 3:30 with FDU hosting a single game.
