DALLAS, Pa. (April 17, 2017) - The FDU baseball team fell to Misericordia 21-3 on Monday afternoon.
The Devils are now 10-12, 4-8 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom, while Misericordia is now 18-7.
Junior
Kenny Carrier kept the Cougars off the board for the first 3 1/3 innings, and the Devils took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Senior
Bryan Pieschel led off with a single, and moved all the way to third on a wild pitch. Junior
Christopher Franco kept up his hot hitting and delivered an RBI single. giving FDU a 1-0 edge.
Misericordia exploded for 10 runs on 10 hits in the fourth and tacked on an additional run in the fifth. With the game already seemingly out of reach, the hosts added nine eight more runs in the seventh plus two in the eighth. The Devils scored a pair of one-out runs in the eighth, as sophomore
Kevin Smiegocki had a sacrifice fly and senior
Josh DellaPietro had an RBI single.
The Devils did have 12 hits, as Pieschel, Franco, DellaPietro and junior
Joseph Bonaccorso all had two each. The five man pitching staff combined to strike out eight, including three by Carrier.
FDU has a quick turnaround, as they host TCNJ at 3:30 tomorrow.
