Softball Bested by Manhattanville

MADISON, N.J. (April 14, 2017) - The FDU softball dropped a pair of games to Manhattanville on Friday afternoon.

The Devils are now 4-6 in the MAC Freedom and 9-18 overall, while Manhattanville remains perfect in the conference at 10-0.

GAME 1: MANHATTANVILLE 8, FDU 0 (5 innings)
The Valiants scored in their first at-bat, as the cleanup hitter lined a first pitch single up the middle. Junior Audrie Thomas kept the Manhattanville bats silent for the next two innings, before surrendering two additional runs in the fourth.

The Devils threatened in the second, as sophomore Courtney Rohde led off with a double. However, the Valiants pitcher rebounded to strike out the next three hitters to end the frame. The visitors broke the game open in the fifth, tacking on five runs.

Rohde and freshman Gabby Young mustered the only two hits of the game for the Devils.

GAME 2: MANHATTANVILLE 17, FDU 4 (6 innings)
The Valiants pounded out 19 hits and nine extra-base hits en route to the victory, scoring 10 runs over the first four frames. With the Devils trailing 4-0 in the second, freshman Liz Kelly stepped up with the bases loaded and delivered a two-run single.

After Manhattanville added four scores in the top of the fourth, freshmen Tara Morash and Annamarie Santangelo collected back-to-back RBI singles to climb within six. That would be as close as they would get, with the Valiants adding seven runs in the sixth, including a grand-slam by Sam Jedrey.

Kelly and junior Michelle Mangini had two hits, while freshman Megan Zaccario fanned three in 2 1/3 innings.
