Baseball Drops 14-8 Decision to Valiants

MADISON, N.J. -- FDU-Florham baseball junior right fielder Garrett Ruoff had four hits in four at bats and senior shortstop Bryan Pieschel recorded three hits, but the Devils still fell to Manhattanville, 14-8, on Friday afternoon.

The Devils dropped to 10-11 on the season and 4-7 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom as the Valiants moved to 11-14 on the season and 6-6 in the MAC Freedom.

Manhattanville was able to grab two runs early in the first inning, capitalizing on an error. Senior Nick DeAngelis Jr. was able to bring the Devils within one in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to plate Ruoff.

Pieschel tied up the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the third when he doubled to right field to score DeAngels Jr. and junior first baseman Reynaldo Diaz

Down by two, junior Joseph Bonaccorso scored on wild pitch to close in on the Valiants.
Still Manhattanville found a way to put up two strong final innings that garnered them nine combined runs.

FDU-Florham scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on senior third baseman Dylan DiPolvere sacrifice fly to plate Diaz and a Pieschel run on an error.

In the ninth, Ruoff scored on an error by Manhattanville's shortstop and Diaz earned a run off a Pieschel RBI single to center field but it wasn't enough to catch up.
