Vastano Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (April 12, 2017) - Junior Cassidy Vastano scored a career-high five times to lead the FDU women's lacrosse team to a 15-6 win over Eastern on Wednesday.

The Devils move to 10-3, while Eastern drops to 3-9.

Senior Brienna Reasoner opened the scoring 1:41 into the contest, and Vastano tallied one 21 seconds as the Devils scored the first six markers of the contest. Eastern broke the run with a goal at the 14:57 mark, but Vastano scored a man-up tally three minutes later while Reasoner scored off a feed from Caitlyn Damon to build an 8-1 lead. The Eagles scored the next two, before Vastano capped off her first half scoring with a goal with three seconds remaining in the stanza.

Senior Noelle Shirey started the second frame with a goal a mere 37 seconds in, and the two sides went another seven minutes before FDU scored an additional goal to go up 11-3. The Devils tallied two more man-up goasl, this time saw senior Frances Maggio dish off to classmate Laura Cannillo for the goal. Just 41 seconds after, it was junior Samantha Holleritter who scored man-up. The hosts scored three time to get within 13-6, but sophomore Makenzie Staffordsmith and freshman Eliana Reyes each scored in the final three minutes for the final 15-6 final.

The Hillsborough, N.J. native Vastano had the five goals on eight shots, while Reasoner had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Shirey corralled six draw controls, while the goal keeper duo of Megan Nemeth and Erin Gill combined for 10 saves in the victory.
