DALLAS, Pa. (April 11, 2017) - The FDU softball team dropped a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contests to Misericordia on Tuesday.
The Devils are now 8-16 on the season, and 4-4 in the MAC Freedom.
GAME 1, Misericordia 10, FDU 3
Sophomore
Courtney Rohde got the Devils on the board with a RBI double in the top of the first inning, driving in junior
Taylor Torre. With the bases loaded in the bottom half, the Cougars tied the game thanks to a hit by pitch.
The Devils threatened in the third thanks to a leadoff triple by Torre, but they were unable to push a run across. Misericordia struck for three runs thanks to six hits in the bottom fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Junior
Audrie Thomas escaped a two-on, no-out jam in the fifth getting a groundout to end the threat.
FDU loaded the bases in the sixth on singles by Rohde and junior
Rebecca DeCarlo along with a fielder's choice from senior
Paige Lillie. Freshmen
Tara Morash and
Gabby Young each delivered RBI singles to cut the lead to one. But it was as close as FDU would get, as the Cougars tacked on six runs in the sixth to break the game open.
Torre, Rohde and Morash each had a pair of hits in the opener, with Rohde and Torre collecting extra base hits.
GAME 2: Misericordia 12, FDU 3 (5 innings)
After FDU loaded the bases and failed to score in the first, Misericordia scored thanks to a one-out single from Megan Quintanilla. The Devils responded for three runs in the second. DeCarlo reached on a fielder's choice to lead-off, and freshman
Liz Kelly singled to lead-off the frame. With two down, Young tallied an RBI infield hit, and Torre blasted a two-run single to center.
Misericordia scored once the second, and three times in the third to take the lead 5-3. The game ended in the fifth, as the Cougars scored seven times on three hits, the final one a game-ending, pinch hit grand slam from Maddie Stebich.
Young was a perfect 3-for-3 while Torre collected two more singles.
