PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (March 8, 2017) – Senior
Joelle Manganella recorded her 200
th career point as the FDU women's lacrosse team rolled past St. Joseph's-Long Island 12-4 Wednesday.
The Devils move to 2-1, as St. Joe's dropped to 0-3.
FDU scored the opening seven goals over the first 20 minutes, as freshman
Aliyha Elk opened the scoring just 1:38 in. Junior
Samantha Holleritter also netted one, while Manganella and classmate
Brienna Reasoner each scored a pair during the opening rally. Senior
Frances Maggio capped off the first half scoring with nine minutes left, as FDU fired 16 shots during the first half, putting 11 on goal.
After the hosts got on the board, Manganella scored three straight markers, the third putting her at the 200 point mark. Sophomore Mackenzie Staffordsmith tallied her second goal of the year, while Maggio finished off the Devils scoring with her fifth tally of the year. The Eagles scored three times over the final 3:40, including the final tally coming with two seconds left.
Sophomore
Megan Nemeth allowed just one goal while making six saves, with Holleritter recording a pair of assists and five draw controls. The defense was active, forcing 19 turnovers, led by five from senior
Laura Cannillo. Senior
Noelle Shirey chipped in two assists, four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The Devils will head west to battle Whittier on March 14 in California at 11 a.m.
