Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Whittier, 18-5

WHITTIER, Ca. (March 14, 2017) – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-5 victory over Whittier College on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

The Devils jumped to 3-1 on the season as the Poets dropped to 1-5. FDU-Florham outshot the Poets, 36-12, and picked up 32 ground balls to Whittier's 11 in the triumph.
Seniors Brienna Reasoner, Frances Maggio and Noelle Shirey alongside junior Samantha Holleritter each added three goals in the victory.

The Poets jumped out early, winning the draw control and using the position to grab the first goal of the game at the stick of Neely O'Grady.

It didn't take long for the Devils to answer back though as Maggio caused a turnover and picked up the groundball to give FDU-Florham possession. It was Shirey who fired in the tying goal just 42 seconds after the Poets recorded theirs.

The Devils went on to a 4-0 run following Shirey's goal with points from junior Cassidy Vastano, Reasoner and Maggio. Whittier notched just one more goal in the first half as FDU-Florham notched 13 take an 11-point lead that Whittier could never recover from.

Reasoner capped off her three-goal performance with seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and on assist while Holleritter added an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her hat trick.

Sophomore Caitlyn Damon grabbed her first goal of the season while freshman Aliyha Elk, senior Laura Cannillo and senior Joelle Manganella notched a point each as well. Manganella paired hers with two assists and four ground balls.

Sophomore Megan Nemeth earned the win with four saves in net while classmate Erin Gill contributed two stops.

Up next, the Devils travel down the road to take on local rival Drew University in the battle of Madison Ave. on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m.
