MADISON, N.J. (March 26, 2017) - Despite leading in both games, the FDU softball team dropped a pair of MAC Freedom games to Wilkes Sunday.
The Devils fell to 3-13 while Wilkes is now 10-2. The contest was the first conference game for FDU, while Wilkes improved to 3-1.
GAME 1: WILKES 7, FDU 6
Freshman
Gabby Young led the first with a bunt single and promptly swiped second on the next pitch. Junior
Taylor Torre collected her 100th career hit, an RBI double to dead-center to plate Young. Classmate
Michelle Mangini was up next, and singled back through the box to put FDU up 2-0.
Freshman
Megan Zaccario allowed just three base-runners through three, but hit trouble in the fourth. A lead-off single and a sac bunt, followed by an RBI double by Gracen Stauton cut the lead in half. The Colonels looked poised to tie the game on a single by the next hitter, but Staunton was gunned out on the play on a perfect 6-2 relay throw from shortstop

Wilkes tied the game in fifth on a solo home run by Gabrielle Molitoris. The Devils exploded for four in the home fifth. Freshman
Tara Morash led off with a single and scooted to third on an error. Mangini had the lone RBI of the with a single to right.
Haley Welker cut the Devils lead to three with a long solo homer to right, and Wilkes took the lead for goodin the seventh with four hits but only one earned run.
Mangini was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Torre and Young scored twice each. Zaccario fanned four in five innings in the no-decision.
GAME 2: WILKES 15, FDU 5 (6 innings)
???????Mangini stayed hot, knocking in Torre to start the first inning of game two. The Colonels staged a two-out rally in the second to take the lead for good, the big hit a two-run triple. Christina Gambino of Wilkes hit the first of two home runs on the day in the fourth, which was the start of a huge four run frame.
Despite getting an RBI double from DeCarlo in the fourth, Gambino belted her second of the game in the fifth putting Wilkes up 7-2. The Devils rebounded, tacking on three in the fifth innings, sophomore
Courtney Rohde knocked a two-run single and senior
Paige Lillie had an RBI hit of her own. That's as close as the Devils would get, as the Colonels put up eight runs in the sixth.
Rohde collected two hits, while Torre scored two runs.
