Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Devils Roll Past Vassar, 12-8

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's lacrosse team defeated Vassar College, 12-8, behind four goals each from seniors Joelle Manganella and Brienna Reasoner.

The Devils improved to 5-1 on the season as the Brewers fell to 3-3.

Both squads put up a strong performance with the Devils just outshooting Vassar, 19-18. FDU-Florham took advantage of Vassar turnovers to rack up points on the scoreboard for the victory.

Reasoner contributed four goals and classmate Noelle Shirey added two as both midfielders picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers each. Reasoner also recorded five draw controls while sophomore Kathleen Petrucelli came off the bench and notched two goals and an assist in the outing.

The Brewers struck early in the game, notching their first point in the first minute of play.

But the Devils capitalized on a free position attempt just four minutes later when Shirey fired in the tying point.

It was Manganella who tallied another goal just 30 seconds later on a free position opportunity but Vassar's Brittany Botticelli was able to answer back to make it 2-2 just 10 minutes into the contest.

With a persistent attack, Manganella, Petrucelli and Reasoner each added a point to leave the half with a 6-4 lead.

The Devils didn't waste any time in the second half as Manganella drove in a short-handed goal just three minutes into play.

With 15 minutes remaining on the clock, FDU-Florham widened the scoring gap, scoring three unanswered goals at the sticks of Petrucelli, Reasoner and Manganella.

Vassar rallied to score three straight goals with four minutes left in the game but a closing goal from Shirey capped off the FDU-Florham triumph.

Sophomore Megan Nemeth stood solid in net for the Devils, making 10 saves and picking up three ground balls.

Up next, FDU-Florham takes on Kean University in the home opener at Robert T. Shields Field on Wednesday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
