AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 11, 2017) - Senior
John Armstrong hurled six innings from one run ball as the FDU baseball team picked up a 10-4 victory over Olivet Saturday.
The Devils even their mark to 1-1, while Olivet dropped to 0-5.
It was the Comets who plated an unearned run in the top of the second on an infield single, but the Devils would add runs over the next four innings to pull away. They evened game in the home second, as junior
Reynaldo Diaz touched home on an error, and grabbed the lead for good on a passed ball in the third.
FDU pushed five runs across in the third frame, the big blow being a two-run double to left center by junior
Christopher Franco. Three batters later, senior
Josh DellaPietro doubled to left, which was followed up by an RBI single by junior
David Wilbur.
The six runs were more than enough for Armstrong, who struck out two and allowed six hits with only one walk. The lone run was unearned. Olivet tacked on three runs over the final three innings, but were unable to close the gap.
Nine players recorded at least one hit, with Franco and lead-off man
Garrett Ruoff each knocking home a pair of runs.
It's a quick turnaround for FDU, as the Devils will host Cairn in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m.
