BETHLEHEM, Pa. (February 25, 2017) - The FDU women's lacrosse team rode a 12 goal first half en route to a 15-3 win over Moravian in the season-opener Saturday.
The Devils wasted no time, as senior
Noelle Shirey scored the first goal of the season just 1:43 into the contest. Four minutes later, senior
Joelle Manganella scored which started a run of eight goals in 4:02. Senior
Frances Maggio, junior
Samantha Holleritter, and Manganella each netted two goals each during the explosion. Senior
Brienna Reasoner, who was a force with six draw controls and four caused turnovers, scored the final goal of the opening stanza to send FDU into the locker room with a comfortable lead.
Shirey tallied her second 1:27 into the second half and freshman
Aliyha Elk potted her first career goal with 10:52 remaining in the game, with the Elk tally being a free position goal. Moravian got on the board with three goals over the final 5:04, including two in the final 1:30.
Megan Nemeth made five saves in 48 minutes, while
Erin Gill made three over the final 12 minutes. Maggio added an assist to go with her two goals, while the team managed to force eight turnovers and went 5-for-9 on free-position attempts.
The Devils are back in action next Saturday when they travel to take on TCNJ.
