Kowalskie OT Winner Sends Devils to ECAC Semis

MADISON, N.J. -- With 2:23 remaining in overtime, sophomore Maggie Sohns drove the ball up the field and found senior Marissa Kowalskie who split the defense and smacked in the game-winner to push the Devils past Arcadia, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Tournament at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils improve to 14-7 on the season and will take on Widener in the semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Alvernia University at 2 p.m.

FDU-Florham outshot their opponent, 26-7, in the contest and grabbed an 8-3 advantage on penalty corners.

Sohns was a dominant staple for the offense, taking seven shots while junior defender Makayla Pak fired six and Kowalskie hit five.

With just under two minutes remaining in regulation time, senior defender Lauren Brannan came up with a huge defensive save on a rocket from Arcadia's Isabelle Houser to force the overtime period that led to the Devils' eventual victory.

Brannan's defensive stop moved her into the sole position of second place in the program's all-time career defensive saves record with a career total of nine.

In goal, junior Samantha Rubin made three saves to hold off the opposing attack while her counterpart made 10 stops to keep the Knights within reach.
