Men's Basketball Topped By Saint Elizabeth's

MADISON, N.J. (November 17, 2017) - The FDU men's basketball team dropped an 86-82 decision to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Friday evening.

The Devils drop to 0-2, while Saint Elizabeth moved to 1-1.

The Eagles had a hot start, at one point shooting upwards of 67% in the first half, settling down to go 21-of-40 from the field over the first 20 minutes of play. Junior Derek Leohner hit a layup with 12:16 left in the opening half, cutting the lead down to four points. St. Elizabeth would go on a 21-7 spurt over the next six minutes, pushing their lead to 18.

The Devils went on an 8-0 run, capped off with a layup from Dermot Egan with 2:11 to go in the first, and a free throw from freshman Ahmad St. Fleur cut the lead to 14 heading into halftime.

After the teams traded the first eight points, FDU scored 10 of the next 12 to within six at 54-48, as senior Steve Herdman hit back-to-back layups. St. Fleur would hit a twisting layup at the 10:27 mark, getting the gap to three and forcing St. E's into a timeout.

The hosts made the game a one-possession game on back-to-back layups from St. Fleur, and had a chance to tie with under a minute left. The rimmed out, and the Eagles would score four straight points to build a six point lead before senior Veon Lassiter hit a layup at the buzzer to establish the 86-82 final.

Junior Anthony Mitchell led the team with 25 points off the bench, while also adding three steals and three rebounds. Junior Darren Davy chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds, while Lassiter had 12 points and eight rebounds. St. Fleur handed out a team high six assists in the set back.

FDU is back in action Tuesday, traveling to Hoboken to take on Stevens at 6 p.m.
