Women's Basketball to Open Season Wednesday

MADISON, N.J. (November 14, 2017) - The FDU women's basketball team opens its season with a home game against Rutgers University-Newark Wednesday.

GAME INFO
Tip-off at the Ferguson Recreation Center is scheduled for a 6 p.m.

2016-17 REWIND
The Devils finished last season with a 25-4 mark, including a 13-1 record within the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round, falling to Babson in overtime.

PRESEASON OUTLOOK
FDU was tabbed to finish No. 1 in the MAC Freedom Preseason Coaches Poll, gaining six of eight first place votes. DeSales and Eastern were selected second and third respectively, with each picking up a first place vote.

R.O.Y. RETURNS
The Devils return three of the five starters from last year, led by sophomore Kendrea Williams. Williams was the D3Hoops.com National Rookie of the Year as well as MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year. The sophomore led the conference in scoring with 19.8 points per game.

WHAT'S NEW
The Devils welcome four newcomers, highlighted by transfers Gabrielle Harris and Bria Smith. Smith, a junior, was the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 2013-14 and will look to control glass on both ends. Harris, a versatile sophomore guard, was selected as an Honorable Mention All-NJAC player last year after averaging 14.3 points per game at William Paterson.

UPPER CLASSMEN
Senior Michaela Piserchia will be turned to give key minutes off the bench, while juniors Kayla Croswell, Raven Dowling and Mariah Martinez combined to start 43 games last season. Dowling will be counted on to help bring the ball up court, while Croswell excelled last season in hitting the boards, including on the offensive end. Martinez will be counted on to be a threat from beyond the arc, as she was fourth on the team in triples last year.

30-UNDER-30
Assistant Coach Jessica Cavaco was honored by the WBCA as one of the top 30 Coaches Under 30 last March. Cavaco has served as the top assistant for Head Coach Marc Mitchell for eight years, winning five straight MAC Freedom titles.
