Women's Soccer Cruises to Conference Win

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- A dominant offensive performance led the FDU-Florham women's soccer team to an important 2-0 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom victory over Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils improved to 9-6 on the season and 2-3 in the conference while the Valiants fell to 3-8-1 and 0-5 in the MAC Freedom.

FDU-Florham commanded the field, outshooting their opponent, 22-3, and grabbing a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks.

It was freshman midfielder Tatiana Nieto who grabbed the game-winning tally, firing the ball over the goalie's head from 40 yards out just 15 minutes into the contest.

Senior forward Kristina Ragolia was everywhere for the Devils, pressuring with five shots, including four on net. Ragolia broke through with an insurance goal in the 48th minute, tapping in a feed from sophomore midfielder Lindsey Scarmozzino to ensure the win.

Scarmozzino recorded four shots as freshman Erica Martins took three in the offensive effort.

In the 76th minute, sophomore defender Nicolette Roberts came close to scoring with a one-timer from 30-yards out, but the ball popped up just over the crossbar.

The defense of Roberts, senior Missy Quinn, sophomore Dari Lyons and freshman Miranda Rosa held strong, holding the Valiants to just three shots on goal over the course of 90 minutes.

In goal, freshman Ashley Paulino needed to make just threes stops to earn the victory as Manhattanville's Gabriella Beltrami kept her team within reach, making 12 saves.

Up next the Devils return home to face conference foe Misericordia University on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
