MADISON, NJ — The Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham women's soccer team took control of its home field on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 1-0, at Roger T. Shields Field in the Home Opener.
The Devils move to 1-0-1 as the Bulldogs fall to 0-1.
FDU-Florham held possession of the ball for most of the contest, outshooting Brooklyn, 22-4.
While the Devils dominated the first half with aggressive offensive pressure, the solid defense of Brooklyn's Jasmine Fermin kept FDU-Florham just out of reach.
The Devils entered the second half and took control almost immediately. Despite several scoring opportunities, it wasn't until about 30 minutes left in the game that senior forward
Kristen Fila found the net, heading the ball in off a long cross from the corner by senior midfielder
Ashley Granato to make it 1-0.
The goal came just two minutes after a great scoring opportunity for the Devils that saw freshman midfielder
Nicolette Roberts cross the ball to the middle of the box, finding junior forward
Kristina Ragolia, but Brooklyn goalie Samantha Rodriguez came up with the save.

Annie George stood tall in net, making a great save with 10 minutes left in the game to hold the lead and earn the shutout with four saves.

Brittni Calleo and Ragolia led the offensive charge with four shots each and senior defender
Missy Orlando recorded three shots.
The Devils face Ramapo College next on Sunday, Sept. 4 in Madison, NJ at 4 p.m.
