SCRANTON, Pa. – Led by the hitting tandem of Melissa Gaffney and Lauren Harris, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team earned a 2-2 split at this weekend's University of Scranton Invitational.

The Devils (2-2) swept Bard College in the Invitational opener on Friday afternoon before falling to Wheaton College in the nightcap on Friday. In Saturday's two-match day, the Devils dropped a hard-fought five-setter to Mount St. Mary College before rallying to edge the host Royals 3-2 in the final match of the weekend.

Gaffney and Harris paced the Devils all weekend long including a total of 38 kills in the five-set win over Scranton. In the tightly-contested, five-set thriller, the Gaffney tallied 20 kills, while Harris amassed 18 winners.

Junior setter Courtney Conte dished out 18 assists, while freshman Brianna Perone totaled 12 helpers in her collegiate debut.

Harris and defensive specialist Rachel Catena had their top serves in full force with eight aces apiece, while Catena led the way on the backline with 14 digs.

After dropping the first two sets, the Devils showed tremendous resilience to rally to two comfortable wins in the third and fourth sets and force a decisive fifth frame. A back-and-forth fifth set went the way of the Knights as they held off the Devils 15-13.

Conte totaled a career-best 36 assists in the hard-fought loss, while Harris and Gaffney combined for 24 kills and Catena netted 31 digs.
