ANNVILLE, Pa. – Seven Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham student-athletes have been named to their respective Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Spring Academic All-MAC Teams as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Women's lacrosse's Joelle Manganella, Brienna Reasoner, and Kelsey Ryan along with Nikki Caruso and Marlena Bevilacqua from the Devils softball team, Max Moscowitz from men's tennis and men's golfer Mike Lieberman were all honored for their excellence on the field and in the classroom.
"These recipients represent the true meaning of a student-athlete," said Andrews. "This is one of the top conference awards we give out each season. It honors our student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the playing field."
In total, 107 spring student-athletes were recognized across 10 teams. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote for the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success.
Manganella, who is a Psychology and Biology major, posted a 3.71 GPA this spring, while helping lead the Devils to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The All-MAC Freedom First Team selection and IWLCA All-Region Second Team honoree, led the team with 47 goals and 67 points this season.
This season, Reasoner, a Marketing major, who posted a 3.86 GPA this spring, became the women's lacrosse program's first ever All-American by being named IWLCA All-American Second Team. The MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the year piled up 46 goals this season, including her 100th career score, while filling up the box score with 65 groundballs, 57 draw controls and 47 caused turnovers on the campaign. Reasoner's 65 groundballs and 47 caused turnovers are both FDU-Florham single-season records, while her 57 draw controls are fifth most.
Ryan's defensive prowess was a key part of the Devils' MAC Freedom Championship and the team's second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Psychology and Education major amassed a 3.81 GPA this spring. On the field, she earned All-MAC Freedom First Team honors and was named IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region First Team.
In her final season with the Devils, the Madison, N.J. native Nikki Caruso captured several school records on the diamond, while becoming the program's first ever CoSIDA Academic All-American. The record-setting member of the Devils softball team graduated last week from the University with an impressive 3.95 GPA as a psychology major, including a perfect 4.0 GPA this spring. Caruso, who was named NFCA All-Region First Team and MAC Freedom Player of the Year, registered a phenomenal final campaign in Madison, in which she set single-season records with a .480 batting average, 59 hits and 42 runs. Additionally, the senior second baseman's 43 RBI and 10 home runs this season rank second in the program's single-season history.
Caruso's sophomore teammate Marlena Bevilacqua also posted a perfect 4.0 GPA this spring. The Elementary Education major and All-MAC Freedom First Team selection set the Devils' single season record for stolen bases with 36 thefts this season. Additionally, her 53 hits were second most in a season, while her39 runs scored were third most.
Moscowitz helped push the Devils to the MAC Freedom Championship with an outstanding sophomore campaign. The All-MAC Freedom First Team selection posted a 3.20 GPA as an Accounting Major at FDU-Florham. Facing the opposition's top competitor in first singles and first doubles all season, the sophomore and team captain helped guide the Devils to a successful campaign and the second best record in the conference.
Lieberman burst onto the scene in his first season with the Devils men's golf team by earning All-MAC Freedom Second Team honors. The freshman Finance major posted a 3.50 GPA this spring, while helping guide the team to a third place finish at the MAC Freedom Championships. Lieberman carded a two-day score of +22 and finished tied for ninth overall in the season finale.
