MADISON, N.J. – A pair of hat tricks from juniors Brienna Reasoner and Joelle Manganella helped push the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team past the King's College Monarchs 11-3 in a MAC Freedom contest on Saturday afternoon.
This was the second consecutive game in which the two juniors recorded a hat trick. Manganella added to her impressive four-goal outing by dishing out three assists. The Devils (5-6, 1-0 MAC Freedom) offense applied a great deal of pressure on the Monarch's (2-7, 0-1 MAC Freedom) goal as FDU-Florham outshot King's 35-8 in the conference opener.
On the defensive side of the ball, Reasoner tallied a season-high eight ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers. Sophomore Samantha Holleritter and junior Kelsey Ryan also recorded four caused turnovers in the game.
FDU-Florham won the opening draw control and within a matter of seconds the ball was in the net after Frances Maggio found Brienna Reasoner for the score.
Several minutes later the Monarchs had possession of the ball and failed to successfully complete the clear as Holleritter forced a turnover. With the ball back with the Devils, junior Brittni Calleo passed it over to Manganella and she netted the shot.
Manganella went on to add back-to-back free position scores and another goal in a five-minute span in the first half to give the Devils a 5-0 lead.
The Monarchs managed to get on the board late in the opening stanza on a score by Sarah Almony that was assisted by Gabriella Morrocu.
Two minutes later though the Devils got the lead back to five once Calleo sent a free position shot into the back of the net.
Before the half came to a close, senior Brianna Capobianco controlled the ball on the successful clear and she dished it over to Reasoner for the goal to put FDU-Florham up 7-1.
To open up the second half Capobianco was now the one scoring the goal as she netted a shot off of an assist by Manganella.
Manganella continued to facilitate the offense and she tallied a pair of assists on the following two goals for the Devils that were put in by Reasoner.
FDU-Florham added one more score when Kathleen Petrucelli found the back of the net with five minutes remaining in the game to make it an 11-1 game.
The Monarchs tallied two more goals in the final three minutes of action off of free position shots from Morrocu, but the Devils were able to grab the 11-3 conference victory.
FDU-Florham will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 for a road MAC Freedom match against Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. at 6 p.m.
