Devils Hit Three Home Runs in 13-8 Win over Wilkes

KINGSTON, Pa. – Propelled by Josh DellaPietro's first-inning grand slam, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham baseball team topped Wilkes University 13-8 at Artillery Park on Friday afternoon.

DellaPietro, who homered twice in the Devils' (11-17-1, 4-10 MAC Freedom) win over Drew on Wednesday, continued his power surge by hammering his third home run of the season on Friday as the Devils jumped out to a 5-0 leading over the Colonels (17-16, 6-10 MAC Freedom) through one turn at bat.

Wilkes eventually rallied to tie the game at 6-6 before the Devils again broke the game open in the late innings.
Senior center fielder Frankie Tassielli led the charge for the Devils with a 3-for-5 afternoon, including his team-leading sixth long ball of the season.

After the Colonels starter Marcus Leaf retired the first two batters of the afternoon, Tassielli started the rally for the Devils with a two-out single up the middle. Leaf lost the strike zone and proceeded to walk the next three batters in order, resulting in a 1-0 Devils' lead.

With the bases loaded and desperate to throw a strike, the Colonels' right-hander grooved a pitch to DellaPietro, who promptly deposited it over the left field fence for a 5-0 Devils' lead.

The Colonels scratched across a run in the home half of the frame but the Devils countered in the top of the second when Tassielli plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

Wilkes continued to chip away and eventually tied the game at six with four runs in the home fourth, highlighted by designated hitter Matt Dacey's two-run jack.

The Devils immediately responded by tallying a run in the top of the fifth courtesy of a run-scoring double by Sam Coutoufos.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Devils broke the game open in the top of the eighth. Joseph Bonaccorso opened the scoring with a solo blast for his first home run of the season. Then, later in the frame, Tassielli smoked a two-run shot over the center field fence, which enhanced the Devils' lead to 11-6.

The Devils tacked on two more in the top of the ninth with a Vinny Bonaccorso single that plated Kevin Sinclair and Joseph Breymeier.

Junior right-hander John Armstrong earned the victory for his first decision of the season by coming on in relief of starter Matt Zingaro and tossing five innings of two-run baseball.

Also tallying multi-hit games in the win for the Devils were Sinclair (2-for-5) and Joe Bonaccorso (2-for-4) and Vin Bonaccorso (2-for-5).

Tassielli finished with three RBI on the afternoon, which increased his team-leading total to 27.

These two teams square off again tomorrow in Madison with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
