Maggio's Four Goals Lift Devils Past Crusaders

READING, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to four by topping Alvernia University 15-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Frances Maggio paced the Devils (7-6, 2-0 MAC Freedom) with four goals and one assist on the afternoon.

The Devils outshot the Crusaders (4-6, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) 30-25 in the contest, including a 27-19 edge in on-target shots.

Senior attack Brianna Capobianco netted her second hat trick of the season by tallying three goals in the win. Capobianco also added three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her ledge in the victory. The senior opened the scoring at the 25:19 mark by burying a feed from Cassidy Vastano.

The newest member of the Devils' 100-career goals club, Brienna Reasoner stretched the lead to 2-0 by finishing an assist from Capobianco less than four minutes later.

Alvernia stormed back with three straight goals but the Devils countered with three unanswered strikes of their own and led 5-3 to with 8:39 to play in the opening stanza.

The two teams traded goals before Joelle Manganella buried her 22nd goal of the season courtesy of a feed from Reasoner with just 30 seconds left in the half.

The Crusaders momentarily closed the gap when Angel Adams netted the first goal of the second half, however, the Devils were just warming up.

FDU-Florham responded with four straight scores over the next 10 minutes of action, which built an 11-5 cushion.  Capobianco kicked off the scoring surge with her third of the day then Brittni Calleo followed with an unassisted strike.

With a four-goal lead in hand, Maggio went to work with back-to-back unanswered scores.

Led by Reasoner's four caused turnovers, the Devils' defense was able to prevent the Crusaders from rallying in the game's final minutes as FDU-Florham secured the win.

Freshman netminder Megan Nemeth made eight saves to earn her seventh win of the season.

The Devils continue their three-game road trip when they travel to Wilkes University this Wednesday, April 20. First draw control is set for 4 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
