Women's Lacrosse Routs Colonels 17-6 for Fifth Straight Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Featuring a balanced scoring attack, which saw five different players score at least two goals, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team upended Wilkes University 17-6 at Schmidt Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Devils (8-6, 3-0 MAC Freedom) have now won five straight games, while the loss for the Colonels (11-3, 3-1 MAC Freedom) marks their first conference defeat of the season.

With the victory, the Devils secure sole possession of first place in the conference standings with three games remaining.

Brianna Capobianco and Joelle Manganella each recorded hat tricks, while also dishing out a pair of assists in the win.

In addition to her two-goal effort, junior midfielder Frances Maggio did an excellent job setting up her teammates and finished with a game-high four assists in the contest.

The Devils' defense held the high-scoring Wilkes offense in check, including the MAC Freedom's leading goal scorer Madeleine Brownsey, who picked up two cards and was forced out of the game.

Brittni Calleo opened the scoring by burying an assist from teammate Cassidy Vasatno just 56 seconds into the game. Maggio followed with her 10th goal of the season off of a feed from Manganella, which gave the Devils an early 2-0 lead.

After Tori Kerr answered for the Colonels, the Devils responded with three unanswered goals. Manganella netted her first of the day and Samantha Holleritter followed with back-to-back scores, which stretched the cushion to 5-1.

Already leading 7-2 at the break, the Devils stepped on the gas by tallying the first four scores of the second half and broke the game wide open. Brienna Reasoner added to her team-leading goal total by netting the first two goals of the stanza. Then, Capobianco and Maggio found the back of the net just 28 seconds apart for a commanding 11-2 lead.

With an insurmountable lead in hand, the Devils rolled to the finish for the lopsided victory.

In addition to her two goals, Holleritter filled up the box score with five draw controls, three caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs on the night.

Freshman goalkeeper Megan Nemeth earned the victory by making 12 stops in her 48:55 of action.

The Devils will set out to continue their winning ways when they return to action this Saturday, April 23 against Eastern University. First draw control is set for 1 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
