Devils Surge Past Monarchs with Fourth Quarter Comeback

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's lacrosse team erupted for five goals in the fourth quarter and came from behind to defeat the King's College Monarchs 8-5 in a MAC Freedom game on Saturday night.

Seven different FDU-Florham (4-7, 2-1 MAC Freedom) players recorded a goal in the win over the Monarchs (2-8, 1-2 MAC Freedom). Freshman attack Mike Warg led the Devils in scoring with a pair of goals.

On the defensive end, junior Dan Decker caused five turnovers and tallied four ground balls.

In the early stages of the opening quarter the Devils placed three shots on the Monarchs' goal but they were all saved by King's goalkeeper Derek Bowman.

Following Bowman's third save of the night, the Devils got the ball back and Warg sent it into the back of the net to put FDU-Florham up by a score.

The Monarchs were quick to counter though and on the ensuing possession they scored right after winning the faceoff.

Around the five-minute mark the Devils found themselves a man down and after Decker caused a King's turnover, he picked the ball up and scored.

Before the first quarter came to a close a third goal was scored by the Devils, this time coming off of a shot from sophomore Dan Sagl.

In the second and third quarter the Devils were held scoreless while the Monarch's added three goals to take a 4-3 lead. During their scoreless stretch, FDU-Florham had four shots on goal denied by Bowman.

The Devils came back onto the field in the fourth quarter and they scored two quick goals off of shots from David Stewart and Dalton Rimmer to reclaim the lead.

Following the Rimmer goal, the Devils won the faceoff and worked their way towards the Monarchs' net. Daniel Minnich had the ball and he found Warg for the score to put the Devils up 6-4.

With a two-goal lead, Frank Salustri and Liam Nelson each scored to cap off a 5-0 run for the Devils.

In the closing seconds of the game the Monarchs put a shot into the back of the net to cut the deficit to three but the Devils were able to close it out and grab the conference win.

FDU-Florham will return to Madison for a home game against DeSales University on Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
