HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's basketball team fell 51-45 to SUNY Geneseo in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday night at Canavan Arena.

The Devils (21-7) trailed by 16 at halftime and despite a valiant comeback in the third quarter, were unable to overcome the deficit. In the win, Geneseo (21-7) crashed the boards relentlessly, especially on the offensive glass, where they held a 12-6 advantage.

True to form, the top 10 nationally-ranked Knights' defense held the Devils well below their season average of 71.3 points per game.

In her final contest with the Devils, senior forward Shalette Brown double-doubled for the 24th time with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Brown was an efficient 5-for-8 from the floor on the night.

With the win, the Knights advance to the tournament's second round against the winner of Old Westbury and the host Ducks.

The Knights knocked down their first three from downtown and led 11-5 at the first media timeout as the Devils scuffled to a 2-for-7 start from the field.

Brown led the Devils through one quarter of play with four points and four rebounds, while McKenna knocked down both of her shots for five tallies as Geneseo led 14-10 after one.

The Devils notched the first give points of the second quarter and took at 15-14 edge thanks to a corner three from Fernanda Reyes. But the Knights immediately responded with a 10-2 run spurred on by Katie Durand, who diced the Devils for three layups over that stretch.

Geneseo's momentum continued as they took advantage of Devils' foul trouble and closed the half on a 20-3 run, which established a 34-18 halftime lead. FDU-Florham was unable to get its offense going and connected on just 1-of-8 shots over that eight minute stretch.

McKenna was 4-for-5 in the opening stanza with 10 points and five rebounds to lead Geneseo, while Brown went 3-for-5 with six points and six boards for the Devils in 13 minutes of play.

Led by their tenacious defense, the Devils clawed back into the game by outscoring the Knights 16-5 in the third quarter. Geneseo cooled the Devils by scoring the first four points of the fourth quarter before Groom broke through for the Devils with a layup from the left side.
