Manganella Notches 100th Goal in Win Over Cross-Street Rival Rangers

MADISON, N.J. – Junior attack Joelle Manganella registered career goal number 100 as the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team topped cross-street rival Drew University 8-6 on Monday night in the annual Battle of Madison Avenue.

Playing in her 39th game tonight for FDU-Florham, Manganella accomplished the milestone scoring mark. The junior attack finished with two goals on the night and is now tied with Brienna Reasoner for the team lead with nine on the season.

After Juliana Strazulo got the Rangers (2-5) on the board first, Manganella evened the score with an unassisted strike at the 15:20 mark.

The Rangers briefly moved in front again with 11:59 to go in the first half before Kathleen Petrucelli found the back of the net for the Devils (2-4) just 56 seconds later.

Brianna Capobianco scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give the Devils a 4-2 edge, which they carried into the halftime break. The Devils defensive line did an excellent job in the first half and forced 14 Ranger turnovers. Brittni Calleo and Cassidy Vastano especially worked to pressure the Rangers and combined to cause seven turnovers on the night.

Drew's Maddie Spiess opened the second half scoring to cut the deficit to one but Reasoner and Manganella each answered with a goal, which built a 6-3 FDU-Florham edge.

A pair of goals by Calleo eventually gave the Devils their largest lead of the game, 8-4, and freshman goalie Megan Nemeth made the lead stand with six second-half saves. Nemeth finished with nine stops on the night to earn her second collegiate win.

FDU-Florham returns to action when they host Vassar College this Wednesday, March 23 at 4 p.m.
