Women's Lacrosse Falls to Stevens in Non-Conference Tilt

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a six-goal halftime deficit and dropped its non-conference road contest at Stevens Institute of Technology 15-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

After Brienna Reasoner put the Devils (0-2) in front 1-0, the Ducks (1-0) responded with six unanswered goals for a 7-1 halftime lead.

Reasoner finished with two goals on the day, while adding three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control in the loss.

Eric Wilcox paced the Ducks in their season opener by tallying five goals with one assist, five ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

The Ducks outshot the Devils 32-12 in the contest and converted 13-of-14 clear attempts.

Less than three minutes into play, Reasoner broke through with the game's first goal by finishing off a feed from Frances Maggio. But the Ducks' Cami Santor responded at the 25:59 mark with an unassisted strike before Kathleen Kabian put the home team in front for good with 21:07 to go in the opening stanza.

The Ducks went on to rattle off the next five scores, two from Wilcox, and led 7-1 at the break.

Senior Brianna Capobianco opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted goal for the Devlis but the Ducks countered with back-to-back goals just 29 seconds apart from Julianna Ricci and Wilcox for a 9-3 advantage.

Brittni Calleo and Caitlyn Damon each picked up unassisted goals for the Devils over the remainder of the game but the Ducks tallied the final three scores en route to the 10-goal victory.

Damon's goal was her third of the young season as the first-year attack has started strong for FDU-Florham.  Megan Nemeth made 10 saves in goal for FDU-Florham, while Stephanie Schnetzer made five stops to earn the win for Stevens.

The Devils return to action with their home opener this Saturday, March 5 when they host No. 5 The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m.
