Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's lacrosse team dropped a defensive battle to Lebanon Valley College 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Nemeth made eight stops in the loss but the Devils (1-4) were unable to hold onto their second half lead as the Dutchmen (3-2) netted the game's final three goals.
The see-saw battle watched the Devils overcome a 3-1 halftime deficit to take the lead before the Dutchmen stormed back to grab the win in the final 10 minutes.
Brittni Calleo led FDU-Florham with a pair of goals in the loss. The junior midfielder also nabbed three ground balls, three draw controls and caused two turnovers
FDU-Florham led 1-0 after Brienna Reasoner notched the game's first goal less than five minutes into action. The home team countered with two goals over the next three minutes before adding another before halftime and led 3-1 at the break.
Both defenses did an excellent job of limiting the opposition and preventing quality scoring chances, which resulted in the low-scoring first stanza. Each team turned the ball over 18 times in the game in the evenly matched contest.
The Devils stormed out of the locker room as Calleo and Brianna Capobianco each scored, which tied the game at 3-3 with 21:30 to go.
Calleo then put the Devils in front before Joelle Manganella stretched the lead to two with a free position score at the 16:53 mark. Unfortunately, the Devils were unable to make their two-goal lead stand up as the Dutchmen eventually tied the game with 3:06 left.
With 2:42 to go, Sam Boyce buried the game-winner off of a feed from Brenna O'Neill. The goal was Boyce's 12th of the season and second of the game.
FDU-Florham has nine days off before their next contest when they host cross-street rival Drew University next Monday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
