Devils Tennis Drops Spring Opener at Cross-Street Rival Rangers

MADISON, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's and women's tennis teams both suffered 8-1 losses to cross-street rival Drew University on Saturday at the Rangers home tennis facility.

Following a perfect 3-0 mark in the abbreviated fall portion of their schedule, the Devils women (3-1) were unable to get it going against the Rangers (1-1), who earned their first victory over the 2015-16 campaign.

Pamela Russo and Remy Astorino notched the Devils' lone win by claiming third doubles 8-6. Astorino also fought valiantly in second singles but came up short against Drew's Ty Ty Nguyen, falling in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

On the men's side, the Devils (0-3) also took their only flight in doubles by claiming second doubles 9-8 in a 7-2 tiebreaker. Steven Serras and Jason Dubinsky picked up the win for FDU-Florham by edging Drew's Chris Morville and Will Morrison.

In first singles, Max Moscowitz took the Rangers' Vineet Vemulapally to three sets by winning the opening set 6-4. Unfortunately,Moscowitz was unable to close out Vemulapally, who went on to claim the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
