MADISON, N.J. (November 9, 2016) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team topped Marywood 3-2 to advance to the ECAC semifinals Wednesday.
FDU moves to 15-6 and Marywood ends its season at 12-8. The Devils will take on either No. 2 Kean or No. 3 Manhattanville on Saturday at a time and place to be announced.
The Devils hammered the first four shots of the contest toward the Marywood goal, before the team was awarded a penalty stroke at the 8:29 mark. Senior
Kim Davis stepped up to the spot and rippled the mesh for her team-leading 20
th tally of the season.
15 minutes later, senior
Erin O'Connell found her classmate Davis, who ripped the pass into the
bottom right pocket for her second marker of the evening. The Pacers cut the lead in half with 7:48 left before halftime, as Tori Jo Kakusian took a shot that was kicked out by sophomore
Samantha Rubin. The rebound came back to Kakusian, who fired a second attempt that was deflected in by Betsy Macko.
With three minutes and change remaining, sophomore
Brooke Sherwin got her stick on the ball in a scrum in front of the goal and the ball squirted past the keeper for her seventh of the year and sent the Devils into halftime with a 3-1 lead. The Pacers scored 10 minutes into the second half, as Lindsey Quinn deflected an Amelia Waibel shot.
As the clock ticked down, Quinn had a glorious opportunity for the equalizer, but sophomore
Makayla Pak blocked the shot attempt before it could go in for defensive save. The Devils killed the rest of the clock without allowing a shot.
Davis led the team with four shots on goal, while Rubin made five saves in the goal.
