BETHLEHEM, PA. (November 29, 2016) - Four FDU women's basketball players scored 10 points or more to lead the Devils to an 87-83 victory over Moravian Tuesday.
The Devils move to 3-2, while Moravian falls to the same mark.
The freshman duo of Taiah Thornton and
Kendrea Williams combined for the first seven points of the game, as the Devils held the hosts without a point for the first 3:32 of the contest. Williams drained two from the charity stripe to close out the first, and sophomore
Kayla Croswell and Thornton opened the second with layups pushing the lead to eight.
An 11-1 spurt by the Greyhounds pushed the hosts lead to four points with 1:50 left in the half, but four straight points from senior Alyssa Mcdonough evened things up. Moravian would add a layup with 29 ticks left to go up by two heading into the break.
After trading points to begin the third, Croswell capped off a 7-0 run with steal and layup combo to give FDU a lead they held onto until the 3:01 mark of the fourth quarter. A Camille McPherson three evened the score at 72, and a layup by Karlie Brogan gave the Greyhounds a one point lead with under two minutes to play.
After a Williams layup put FDU back in front by a point, senior
Rachel Groom, who only was 2-of-12 from the field, made one of her made shots count. Groom converted a layup while getting fouled before converting the free throw putting FDU on top for good.
Williams led the team with 29 points, hitting 11-of-13 from the charity stripe.Thornton had 19 with four rebounds and five assists, while Groom hauled in 12 boards. Croswell had 11 points and four steals to go along with four assists.
