HACKENSACK, N.J. (November 15, 2016) – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team fell to Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University 96-48 in the season-opener on Tuesday.
The Devils got on the board with a layup from sophomore
Darren Davy to make the score 4-2 in favor of the hosts, who 20-5 run to pull ahead for good. A three-pointer by sophomore
Derek Leohner trimmed the deficit down to 14 points, but that was as close as the Devils would get. The Knights finished the half on a 26-12 run to establish a 26-point halftime edge.
The Knights continued to pour it on in the second half, opening the stanza with a 24-4 spurt. The Devils were out-rebounded 54-30 but managed to hand out 10 assists on 19 made field goals. The Knights shot 52.9% from the field, including 50% from behind the arc.
Davy led the Devils with nine points and five rebounds, while senior
Donte Ali had eight points and four boards. Junior
Steve Herdman tacked on four points, four boards and dished out a team-high five assists.
Mike Holloway led the Knights with 25 points, who also received 19 points from Darian Anderson.
FDU-Florham will back in action on Friday, taking on Tufts at the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Rutgers Newark.
