ANNVILLE, Pa. (November 12, 2016) - The FDU-Florham women's volleyball team fell to NYU 25-16, 25-11, 25-15 in the ECAC Quarterfinals Saturday evening.
The Devils end their 2016 campaign at 17-15, while NYU moves into the semifinals with an 18-16 mark.
Despite falling behind 11-8 in the opening set, the Devils rallied back to score six of the seven, capped off by a Violet attack error. Nine of the next 10 points were in favor of NYU, and the Devils were unable to battle back. Set two was not much different, as the No. 1 seeded Violets scored 14 of the opening 19 points.
With
Rachel Catena serving, FDU came back to within four, with the rally aided by a trio of kills from Melissa Lehnert. NYU closed out the frame with a 11-1 spurt to go up 2-0. The Devils never led in the final period, but were able to knot things up at 12. That was as close as the team would come to taking the lead, as NYU was able to rally back and take the match in straight sets.
Lehnert led the way with eight kills, while
Melissa Gaffney was tops with 14 assists and nine digs.
