Jagger Green accounted for four touchdowns, but the FDU-Florham football team fell to Misericordia 40-36 Saturday.
The Devils end their season with a 2-8, 2-7 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
FDU forced a pair of punts on Misericordia's first two possessions, before Green captained a nine play 88-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown strike to
John Pellegrini. Pellegrini hauled in three passes on the drive. The Cougars opened the second quarter with a touchdown, but
Robert Young answered with a two-yard touchdown scamper to put FDU back up 15-7.
The hosts would tally scores on their next two series on offense, including a one yard QB sneak on fourth down with eight seconds left in the first half. The teams traded punts to begin quarter three, but the Cougars scored with 3:51 left in the quarter to go up 27-15, aided by a third down pass interference penalty.Stevens Iannone returned the ensuing kick-off 74 yards, setting up a first-and-goal at the Misericordia six. Green hit
Michael Panzarino on the next play to get the Devils within six. The hosts answered back with a 22-yard TD run to head into the final stanza with a 33-21 edge.
Green rushed for a nine-yard TD just 1:16 into the fourth and added his second rushing score with 5:14 left, putting the Devils up 36-33. The Cougars marched down the field and pulled in front thanks to a 13 play, 77-yard drive finished off with a 12-yard passing touchdown. FDU had the ball with 1:08 left on the clock, but were unable to score.
Green finished 26-of-40 with 285 yards and two passing TD's, while adding two more on the ground. Pellegrini and Panzarino each went over the century mark, collecting 109 and 103 yards receiving respectively.
Liam Casey and
Isaiah Turner each had 11 tackles in the setback.
