MADISON, N.J. -- In an evenly matched Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest, junior
Missy Quinn's header into the goal off a free kick from senior
Missy Orlando in the 17th minute proved to be the difference in the Devils 1-0 win over Wilkes University.
The Lady Colonels outshot the Devils, 16-13, but thanks to seven saves from senior goalie
Annie George, FDU-Florham was able to hold on to their first half lead and walk away with the victory.
The Devils rose to 6-5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC Freedom in the Friday night win at Robert T. Shields Field. FDU-Florham wore pink during their warmups to support field hockey Head Coach
Jenn Noon and the fight against breast cancer.
Both squads played a very physical but even game throughout. Senior midfielder
Brittni Calleo was a dominant force in the center, sending several through balls and leading with six shots.
Wilkes' best opportunity of the night came in the 78th minute when Dianna Connor headed the ball right in front of the FDU-Florham goal. George shined in that moment, coming out to make an aggressive stop and earn the shutout.
In the last 10 minutes of the game, Wilkes made a last ditch effort by firing six shots but the Devils defense of senior
Ashley Granato, sophomore
Carly Bresney, Orlando and freshman
Nicolette Roberts remained solid.
Up next, the Devils travel to Doylestown, Pa. for a conference match up against Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
