STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With the game tied at 1-1, FDU-Florham senior midfielder
Brittni Calleo launched a shot from 25 yards out over the College of Staten Island's goalkeeper in the 79th minute to avoid overtime and capture a 2-1 win for the Devils.
Following a scoreless first half, the Devils found themselves trailing by one when Dolphins' Jennifer Cosenza chipped the ball over senior goalie
Annie George's head to take the lead in the 62nd minute of the game.
But with just fifteen minutes left to play, Calleo crossed the ball in front of the Dolphins' net and senior forward
Gabby Diaco capitalized on a header to tie the game.
About three minute later, Calleo sealed the victory and served Staten Island its first home loss of the season.
The Devils are now 5-5-3 on the season while the Dolphins dropped to 6-3-1.
Calleo was the offensive spark FDU-Florham needed, playing a part in both goals and taking six shots in the attack.
On the defensive end of things, George made six stops to hold the Devils within reach.
The game was even throughout with FDU-Florham slightly outshooting Staten Island, 15-12. On the other end, the Dolphins were able to grab an advantage of seven corner kicks to the Devils' five.
Up next, FDU-Florham returns to conference action against Wilkes University on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
