Field hockey to host benefit game for Hunter Syndrome and Type 1 Diabetes

MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham field hockey team will be hosting a benefit game for Hunter Syndrome and Juvenile Diabetes against conference foe Delaware Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Robert T. Shields Field.

Hunter Syndrome is near and dear to senior forward Kim Davis. Davis' family friend has two boys who suffer from the disease. Aiden, 5, and AJ, 3, were both diagnosed with this disease on December 3, 2014. It is a rare, terminal genetic disease, with a life expectancy of only 10-20 years. Hunter Syndrome only affects males and only 2,000 people are affected worldwide.

Aiden and AJ's cousin, Nicky has Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes, a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Nicky is 11 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes last year. This disease affects 200,000 children under the age of 20.

The FDU field hockey team is coming together to raise awareness for both of these diseases. There will be a $3 donation as an entrance fee and all proceeds will go to the family.
