MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's basketball team suffered a 72-60 loss to conference rival Delaware Valley University on Wednesday night at the Ferguson Recreation Center.
The Devils (4-12, 2-3 MAC Freedom) struggled mightily from long range, connecting on just 3-of-17 attempts, while the Aggies (13-3, 4-1 MAC Freedom) knocked down 40 percent of their treys and 42.6 percent overall in the win. Delaware Valley currently sits atop the conference standings with DeSales University, while the Devils are one of four teams at 2-3.
Reigning MAC Freedom Player of the Week Donte Ali narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Steve Herdman joined Ali as the lone other Devil to score in double figures with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
The Aggies' top scorer Chris Moran led all players with 19 points on 7-of-10 (70%) shooting. Moran was incredibly efficient with his game-highs coming in just 21 minutes of action.
Ali opened the game with a driving layup but from that point on, the Aggies took control and never trailed again. Leading 23-20, a three-point play by Barry Brockington, followed by five straight points from Zach Sly quickly stretched the Aggies' cushion to 11 points.
A 3-pointer by Herdman cut the deficit to single digits just before halftime but the Aggies held a 38-29 advantage at the break.
Delaware Valley maintained a safe distance for the duration of the second half, stretching its lead to as much as 17, while preventing FDU-Florham from ever climbing within ten.
After spending most of the first half on the bench due to foul trouble, Moran broke out in the second stanza with 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Four Aggies scored in double figures with Brockington tallying 16, Tyliek Kimbrough 13, and Sly with 11 points. Kimbrough was a nuisance for the Devils and generated much of the Aggies' offense by dishing out six assists to go along with his eight rebounds. In total, the Aggies outrebounded the Devils 44-35, including 10-6 on the offensive glass.
The two teams exchanged more turnovers than either coach would have liked with the Devils totaling 18 giveaways and the Aggies amassing 16 miscues in the contest.
FDU-Florham returns to action this Friday, January 22 against Wilkes University with start time set for 5 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
