Devils Drop Non-Conference Match to Cougars 4-0

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team was defeated 4-0 by the Kean University Cougars on Tuesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

Both the Devils (2-2) and the Cougars (2-2) traded shots early in the contest, but neither were able to break through for a score. However, in the 40th minute, Kaitlyn Pallito had the ball near the net and sent a chip shot over the Devils' goalkeeper, Annie George, for the first goal of the night.

As the first half came to a close, the Cougars were still holding onto the one score lead.

In the second half, the Cougars' offense erupted for three goals. The first came when Sabrina Pascarella headed the ball towards the net and it deflected off a Devils' defender right to Brittany Birth, who then fired the shot in for the score.

The Devils worked hard to put the ball into the net in the second half and came close in the 54th minute when junior Brittni Calleo rifled a shot at the Cougars' goal, but it was pinned to the crossbar by Kean's goalie, KC Nunez.

Calleo had another chance to put one into the back of the net, but came up short again in large part to another impressive save by Nunez.

The Cougars took advantage of the Devils' offensive woes in the contest and in the 73rd minute, Kean was awarded a free kick. Kelly Williamson stepped up and placed the ball into the box, where Jordan Thuman headed it in over George for the score.

With a three goal advantage in the 80th minute, Emily Jurcsek got the ball and used a crossover dribble to create space, allowing her just enough room to bury a shot into the net.

FDU-Florham was outshot 19-8 in the game and despite allowing four goals in the contest, George made seven saves.

The Devils will be back in action on Saturday, September 12 when they travel to Wayne, N.J. to take on William Paterson University in a non-conference road match set to start at 12 p.m.
